Thanks for saving Hembree’s life
Sheriff Ted Sexton Tuscaloosa

Dear Editor: On behalf of the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s
Office and the family of Cliff Hembree, I would like to thank the many people
in our community, the churches, public safety agencies, restaurants and other
organizations that contributed prayer, thoughts, words of encouragement,
cards, e-mails, meals, visits, shoulders, financial contribution and many
other acts of kindness. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for your
support during this traumatic incident.
We wish to thank the DCH Regional Medical Center administration, physicians,
nurses and staff that cared for Cliff and saved his life. A special thanks
to the Trauma Surgical Intensive Care Unit that cared not only for Cliff
but also supported the family and the Sheriff’s Office.
On the day of the incident, Nov. 29, there was great concern that Cliff
would not survive. Thirty days later, he was transferred to Shepherd’s Center
in Atlanta to begin his rehabilitation process.
We work side by side daily with other law enforcement agencies, fire
departments and emergency service personnel. They too played a major role
in saving Cliff’s life along with the immediate action of deputies and Tuscaloosa
Police Officers on the scene. Communications personnel from the Tuscaloosa
Police Department and the Sheriff’s Office, who coordinated with Tuscaloosa
Fire/Rescue, North Star paramedics, provided support and other immediate
needs while handling other calls for service needed by the citizens.
The on-scene care provided by paramedics played a major role in giving
Cliff valuable minutes he needed to live through the serious injuries he
received.
